If you have been injured in an accident, you should bring your claim as soon as you can. The law recognises that it might not always be possible to bring a claim right away – very often we have to concentrate on getting back to full fitness.

*Other costs may be payable

**We have a team of technical claims qualifiers who will speak with you and if you have, in our opinion, a valid claim we can refer your case to one of the personal injury solicitors on our panel.

In general, there is a three year time limit on personal injury claims. This is known as the “triennium”. You have three years from the date of the injury to begin (not conclude) your claim.

Personal Injury Time Limits

There are some exceptions to this rule however. In the case of compensation for industrial diseases you have three years from the date of the diagnosis of the illness to bring your claim.  It can take many years for such illnesses, e.g. Asbestos-related conditions, to manifest, and as such, the clock starts to run from the day you are made aware of the injury. The same is true for medical negligence claims.

The three year time limit also applies in a slightly different way to children. The three year limit begins on their 21st birthday.

For these reasons, it is important to seek legal advice as soon as possible. If you miss the deadline by even one day, you lose your right to claim. If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident contact us without delay.
